Discover What Your Child is Learning
Children are wired to learn through play and pursuing interests. They are gaining important skills all the time! If you’re new to the unschooling philosophy, you may feel anxious about trusting this process. The good news is, you can shift your perspective. Once you do, you’ll be amazed at the learning you see taking place in each of your child’s experiences.
I would love to support you through this! As a former teacher, it is second nature for me to recognize the skills embedded in activities and translate them into what schools term academics. Not only can this help reassure you that your child actually is learning, it is also a valuable skill to possess when reporting to your school district.
In this consult, we will discuss your child’s activities and identify the skills he or she is practicing during these activities, both in lay terms and in “teacher-speak”.
Capture Your Child’s Unschooling Experiences
Keeping track of what your child has been up to is an important aspect of intentional unschooling. In many school districts, parents are required to submit some form of a progress report that demonstrates what learning has taken place over the school year. Documenting throughout the year makes this task so much easier! Just as important, it can be a wonderful way to celebrate the year’s journey.
In this consult, I will help you explore different approaches to documenting your child’s experiences. We will focus on finding the approach that feels right for your family. I will also support you as you compile your documentation into an end of year report to file with your school district.
Witness Unschooling in Action
When talking with parents who are exploring unschooling, the most frequent question I am asked is: “What does a day in your life look like?” Unschooling can be a radical change, and many parents want some concrete examples as they try to make that transition. Although no two families will practice unschooling in the same way, it can help just to see it in action.
In this consult, you will be welcomed into our home to spend a portion of the day with our family. You’ll get to be a “fly on the wall”, watching how unschooling plays out for us. I will help you recognize the learning taking place as our children pursue their passions, and model for you our approach to partnering with our children. My husband and I will work as a team to answer your questions during our time together, and I will be available for additional phone consults after your visit.
Whether you’re just exploring the idea of unschooling, are beginning to put it into practice, or just need some support along your journey, I would love to walk alongside you, sharing my own experiences, and helping you find your own path.
